Starting Salary from £31,604 to £41,929 (Depending on experience) plus relocation allowance and sponsorship and fees for a Skilled Workers Visa where applicable. Initial 3-year fixed term contract.
The CRUK Beatson Institute is a cancer research institute, situated in Glasgow with approximately 250 researchers split across 30 research groups consisting of PIs, postdoctoral scientists, PhD students and scientific officers. It is one of Europe's leading cancer research centres, supporting cutting-edge work into the molecular mechanisms of cancer development. A research position is available within the laboratory of Prof. Martin Bushell. This position will develop and utilise advanced NGS methods including ribosome profiling to interrogate translational programmes operating in the tumour environment. These investigations will be closely linked to a number of groups within the Beatson Institute and will allow the complex molecular biology, advanced next generation sequencing approaches used in the Bushell laboratory, to be deployed into the complex in vivo genetic cancer models within the Institute. Importantly, this will also feed into drug discovery activities taking place in conjunction with the laboratory. The successful applicant will be actively involved in the laboratory’s interface with industry, translating our basic understanding at the forefront of academic pharmaceutical company interactions.
Applicants must have a PhD in a relevant field, be driven by scientific curiosity, and have an excellent publication record in cell biology. Ideally the successful candidate would have a strong track record in protein synthesis, bioinformatics and advanced NGS and an understanding of the associated experimental methodologies. Experience with in vivo models of cancer and/or biochemical kinetic assays using recombinant purified proteins would be an advantage.
