Beatson Labs: Growth factor signalling and squamous cancers/Computational Biology
Project Title: Integrated multiomics of squamous cancer disease progression
Initial 3-year fixed term contract with possible 2 year extension.
The CRUK Beatson Institute is one of Europe’s leading cancer research institutes, situated in the vibrant city of Glasgow in Scotland and hosting approximately 60 postdoctoral research scientists at any one time. It has an excellent reputation for fundamental cancer research, including world-class metabolism studies and in vivo modelling of tumour growth and metastasis. Its research ethos is about excellence, honesty, openness, accountability, and integrity and is particularly renowned for its collaborative spirit.
The growth factor signalling and squamous cancers group is focused on understanding the molecular mechanisms and processes that underpin disease progression from primary tumour formation to metastasis and dictate responses to therapeutic intervention. Using multiomic human tumour profiling, in-vitro functional genomics and in-vivo modelling we are seeking to identify therapeutic vulnerabilities of cutaneous and head and neck squamous cell carcinoma.
A Postdoctoral position is available for an ambitious scientist to work in conjunction with the computational biology group to initially lead the interrogation and integration of unique whole exome, RNaseq and TempoSeq data sets of human and murine primary and metastatic tumour samples and human clinical trial samples. Working closely with experimentalists in the lab in an iterative bioinformatic-experimental cycle they will help to drive the functional interrogation of key mechanisms of tumour recurrence, metastasis and therapy resistance using multiomic and deep phenotyping approaches.
The successful applicant will have a PhD in bioinformatics, or related discipline, significant experience working with cancer genomics datasets, and the use of R and BioConductor for data analysis. Experience with single cell datasets and multiview machine learning would be advantageous.

Postdoc support
Postdocs are key members of our research community, and we offer them a range of opportunities to train and develop as researchers while they are with us:
Equality, Diversity and Inclusion
The diversity of our staff and students is also what makes the Institute such a vibrant place to work and advance discoveries in cancer research. Family friendly policies, our collaborative ethos, a focus on good mental health and well-being and opportunities for all help to create an enjoyable and inclusive workplace where your voice matters.
The Institute is also committed to increasing the number of female scientists at the postdoc level and beyond and encourages female applicants to apply. We have a highly attractive maternity policy which provides 12-18 months support and funding for postdocs wishing to take time off to spend with their children amongst other family friendly policies.
