The CRUK Beatson Institute is a cancer research institute, situated in Glasgow with approximately 250 researchers split across 30 research groups consisting of PIs, postdoctoral scientists, PhD students and scientific officers. It is one of Europe's leading cancer research centres, supporting cutting-edge work into the molecular mechanisms of cancer development. As well as core support from Cancer Research UK, the Institute also receives an additional third of its total income from external grants and industry collaborations. It has an excellent reputation for fundamental cancer research, including world-class metabolism studies and renowned in vivo modelling of tumour growth and metastasis. We currently have a position available to provide maternity cover (from December 2021) in the Growth Factor Signalling and Squamous Cancers Laboratory. You will primarily be responsible for driving research projects investigating the role of TGFb signalling in cutaneous squamous cell carcinoma using a variety of tissue culture, cellular, biochemical and molecular approaches. You will also participate in collaborative projects and provide support for PhD students in the laboratory.
The successful candidate will have a PhD in a relevant subject. Research experience using tissue culture models and biochemical approaches are also essential. Experience of in-vivo techniques and possession of a Home Office personal licence would be advantageous but not essential. Good organisational and people skills and the ability to multitask and act as a team player will be very important.
