People and Culture Advisor (HR)

The CRUK Scotland Institute in Glasgow is one of Europe’s leading cancer research centres. It is core funded by Cancer Research UK and supports leading research into the molecular mechanisms of cancer development. The Institute provides an outstanding research environment, underpinned by state-of-the art core services and advanced technologies.

We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced HR generalist advisor to support the Institute’s busy People and Culture function.  The successful candidate will work as part of a small but dynamic People and Culture team to support its activities across the Institute.

The Institute employs over 300 staff comprising academic research scientists, research services support staff and administration support.  In addition, the Institute also supports about 40 PhD students and 50 associated research staff.

Key Responsibilities:

• Ensure compliance with employment law and best practice
• Assist HR Manager with Employee Relations cases
• Provide expert advice on HR policies and procedures
• Support design and delivery of learning events and programmes
• Support Institute Health and Wellbeing strategy
• Ensure HR system and database is maintained and up to date, advising of any enhancements/improvements required

Essential criteria

• CIPD Level 5 or other relevant Human Resources Management qualification
• Strong generalist HR experience in a relevant setting
• Strong understanding of current employment law
• Experience of managing employee relations issues
• Strong IT skills and experience with HR systems (MHR Itrent an advantage)
